Criticism
Nikole Crampon-Douin, a painter and watercolourist from Normandy, represents a truly exceptional case in that her exuberant way of painting in total freedom, with that mysterious authenticity, is nevertheless always irresistibly accountable for an impassioned and euphoric style that is in turn directed by her imagination.
Whether realist or decorative, this painting is purely instinctive in appearance, taking very little notice of the rules, styles and customs of composition to better assert itself and captivate the onlooker. Nikole Crampon-Douin, practically flouting perspectives and classical harmony, delves deep into her world and into the translation of her vision and thoughts, conveying her personality with a bold and untamable individuality. She thereby creates a naïve and synthetic ensemble thanks to her understanding of a world that is either tangible or dream-like, and as enigmatic as it is fascinating.
The artist’s palette abounds in pure colours, and these are applied feverishly and uncompromisingly with a brushstroke that intertwines shapes and nuances to one, single purpose: staying herself, and expressing herself unreservedly through the exactitude of a symbolism that is unbridled, but worthy of interest and evolution.
