Criticism

It is a fine workshop/gallery overlooking the Seine, with a drawing table, several bottles of acrylic ink, carefully chosen brushes and a tireless and invincible creative passion: this is where LIA can be found, surrounded by one or other of her particularly captivating works that absolutely quiver with originality and true talent. What’s more, she is modest and hidden away! We are going to have to talk about LIA one of these days, this enthusiast for working and teaching, and who is so pleasant and spontaneous, unceasingly forging her own creative destiny. First of all, there were her mentors: Sergent, Savary, Ramondot, Toutblanc, Herr etc.: the very best in the field for this student of Rouen’s School of Fine Arts in its heyday. Then she became a visual arts teacher herself, before finally finding her vocation in the welcoming and promising town of La Bouille. I have to admit; I have rarely met a painter/illustrator who knows how to geometrize life and nature so smoothly and with such poetry and freshness, and yet not without a spiritual pinch of surrealism. In fact, LIA brings life to her fabulous drawings so rich in discoveries with spruce colours that are a far cry from watercolours. This born colourist conveys her imagination stylishly and innovatively, not forgetting the magical way in which she transforms nature and anecdotes with such purity and sincerity. And moreover, LIA possesses a rare flare for illustrating children’s books, filling the pages with miraculous spells.
