  • Criticism

Artist’s son and multiple regional prize-winner Daniel Laisney professes to be a self-taught artist. Why not? But then he possesses absolutely exceptional natural gifts. You only have to study his infinitely elegant landscapes, where perspectives stretch away in flowing and convincing soft lines, to be persuaded of this, and recognise him worthy of being counted among the most experienced of artists. His perfect technique is in the service of a deep sensitivity that brings out the best in locations and traditional themes. These are reproduced with talent, creating a reality that is idealised through the artist’s use of light and choice of serene colours. In watercolours, Daniel Laisney’s mastery is conveyed in pleasantly light and very convincing paintings. Nothing can resist the spell he casts with his palette or the eloquent ease of his paintbrush. Coastal scenes proclaim his brilliance and the appeal of his analysis, qualities which also enhance his various studies of characters and animals with their impeccable postures and surprising vitality, and all this within an atmosphere that is soberly realist yet also ravishingly poetic.
