Criticism

Pursuing in an exemplary manner his mother Jane’s artistic vocation, Francis Grenet has made a name for himself at the heart of the circle of Normandy painters. In fact, during his studies at the 'Ecole des Beaux-Arts' in Rouen, his friends and fellow students included Daniel AUTHOUART, Jean-Marc LANGE, and Gérard REMIGEREAU. There are worse models, especially since Francis Grenet has always been able to sustain a genuine and talented personality, which secured him the job as decorator of the memorable Corneille festival in Barentin for ten years. Francis Grenet was and remains passionate about painting and sculpture, and about the many attractions and experiences that they offer to those daring enough to delightfully succumb to their fascination. He won the “Prix de Rouen” in 1968, and was awarded many first prizes at the Normandy “Salon des Indépendants” for both his sculptures and painting. Moreover the bronze medal that he was asked to create by the association‘s President, André Marie, pays a special tribute to his god-mother, the actress Jacqueline Morane. In his paintings, Francis Grenet evokes in passionate studies both the graphical beauty in nudes and muses, as well as the brilliant range of colours in floral arrangements and poetic or dreamy evocations. The grace and ease of these paintings is translated into sculptures where their power equals their success. Whether more abstract or closer to reality, made out of traditional or innovative materials, these sculptures reflect a usage and a mastery that hold no more secrets for this talented creator.
