Marie-Thérèse THÉOPHILE has led an exemplary artistic career. Born in Luxembourg, she is French by marriage and Breton at heart.
This is because the nursery teacher worked hard in her youth to reach the very top in the field of fine arts. She tackled the rough job of window-dressing, and to mark the end of her career, she dedicated herself at the end of the century to her artist vocation, in true Breton style. Her fascination for the atmosphere and the picturesque region of Cornwall allowed her to be a sought after initiate at regional salons and other exhibitions.
After her fine and sleek pastel-drawings that are punctuated with multiple effects of transparency yet without detriment to the colour, THÉA now enters a more chaotic but stringent universe that is both austere and monochromatic, that is nevertheless brought to life with finesse through her brush-stroke. But this is in stark contrast to the expressive curves and rich, vivid colours that also distinguish this new and exciting approach that is brimming with enchanting discoveries. All the while, Théa succeeds brilliantly in creating mysterious shapeless effects, where paint and matter are carefully combined, thereby enhancing a brilliant and magical expression.
