Criticism

The ebonist has always surprised me by his brilliant ability as a restorer, sculptor and creator. Michel Dauguet eloquently exemplifies these professions through the mastery he displays in his different talents and the surprising way in which he brings matter to life, namely valuable ornamental woods, which are enhanced and take on such elegance, precision and presence. His way of evoking shapes is totally surrealist: what counts is the definition, and this he captures in its essence with a stupefying knowledge of the possibilities that exotic or rare species offer. In fact, Michel Dauguet is not able to content himself with an excellent figurative and well-finished piece. His creativity very often tends towards an attractive post-cubist and even plainly contemporary vision. His mysterious scrolls are broad and effective, and govern the inner matter of the fascinatingly enchanting wood, the use of which is determined by his inspiration. Warm, deep, and at the same time evocative, Michel Dauguet’s Work never fails to attract admiration, appealing by means of its grace and innovativeness. Moreover, he establishes a balance in art, his works either characterized by strength or gentleness, yet always the same mastery.
