Criticism

A passionate autodidact from Mayenne, Dany Roulland decided in 2003 to develop her pictorial techniques. She perfectly masters oils, which has become her preferred medium. Now living in Normandy, she has been noticed in numerous regional exhibitions. Dany Roulland accustomed us to her figurative art with its landscapes brimming with freshness and genre scenes portraying lively characters. Capturing nature with precision and talent, her flowing brushstroke, convincing palette and carefully studied effects of light and shade served paintings that conveyed their quintessence and their author's emotion. Letting her creative instinct guide her, Dany Roulland has gradually evolved towards an innovating form of abstraction, transcending tangible reality to confer it a cosmic dimension with great formal simplicity. She paints the immensity of the sky, earth, and natural elements with strength and beauty. No human presence disturbs these original landscapes, which invite contemplation and cannot leave anyone indifferent. With her brilliant handling of the brush, and in beautiful colour blends, she creates a unique, abstract macrocosm that is stripped of artifice. Compositions are always rigorous and balanced. The style is brisk and the colours subtle, varied and bold. Dany Roulland's paintings appear now to transfigure the universe in a bright and poetic vision of their creator's ideal inner world. This timeless work, which the artist continues to explore, cannot fail to engage and to appeal.
