Criticism

Although she began painting at a very early age, Yolande FEREY intelligently took the initiative to turn to etching. It is undoubtedly the values, the mastery and the force of this technique that we can now see in her paintings and engravings whether they are etched or drypoint. Through water-colours and oil paints, Yolande Fery expresses her love for living and for picturesque subjects with a dynamic and supple stroke. Her figurative and some of her abstract work reveal her straightforward insight and her gift for subtle lighting effects. This light transcends the motif and conveys a poetic attentiveness to the different elements, which are in turn enhanced with chromatic vibrations and delectable details. The artist underlines the simplest of sites or the best-understood perspective without ever losing her style of brush-stroke that is so distinctive. He sites are carefully framed by the chance wear of elements or the charming singularity of a character. Whether she is painting a few small and simple pointed-roofed houses, or the curve of a riverside, or towering cliffs, the experienced observer Yolande FEREY conveys her generous and daring talent so beautifully through the depiction of an evocative and compelling environment.
