Criticism
Béatrice Guillaume comes from a large family of artists, and from a very early age she studied at prestigious art schools, devoting her life to continual research that has resulted in her distinct, undulating and protean current artistic style. Her left hand paints shapeless forms and pictograms, leaving the figurative and narrative depiction of nature to her right hand..
First and foremost, her vision of reality is noteworthy since, in her work, grace and finesse combine with elegance to allow for superbly painted fruit still lifes. Simultaneously, her flowers are no less splendid, perched high as they are on their spindly stems, intertwined with originality. Here, the colours, contrasts and translucency confirm the artist’s flare for using fluid watercolours as well as for conveying convincing motifs, riverbanks, and skies that reflect the essence of a nature that is in turn imaginatively poeticized.
These realist paintings of Béatrice Guillaume emanate an energy that originates from a daring yet controlled brush-stroke in her lively and brilliant compositions. But the left hand has nothing to envy the right, and the artist’s innate talent and remarkable technique is never blurred. The way in which she situates rhythms and colours results in an altogether decorative harmony, in which gestural flourishes gather and abound. Always well-balanced, her surprising ensembles comprise real vibrations in terms of shapes and beings. Creative and highly evocative, they are home to an expression that is confidently combined with the artist’s pure graphical sources, giving rise to this strange and fascinating script.
