Born in 1941 in Déville-lès-Rouen in Seine-Maritime, Daniel Sellier has harboured a passion for drawing and painting since his childhood. Influenced by the artistic dynamism of the region, he would join the Paris ABC School of Art as well as various workshops in Rouen. Defining himself as an impressionist landscapist, the artist offers the observer daring breadth and exquisite charm in his works. His palette of feverish and restless shades subtly picks out the outline, volume and light of each of his subjects. And so Daniel Sellier’s craftsmanship and technique translates into a pictorial script displaying admirable mastery. His supple and enveloping brushstroke explores vast landscapes, in which he seeks to capture the smallest details in order to create harmony and a sophisticated hierarchy of the elements. You need only look at his gardens, riverbanks, ports and floral compositions to witness the dazzling explosion of shadows and colours, and fleeting, contrasting nuances. It is therefore with virtuosity that the artist glorifies the pretty region of Normandy and the sweetness of Provence in works that burst with nature’s beauty and delicate reality. Creating to the accompaniment of music, the artist proposes through his work an intimate collaboration with the life of the world. His impressionism is an ode to the serenity and poetry of passing days. Daniel Sellier has been a member of the European Academy of the Arts since 1985, and exhibits permanently in his workshop in Les Andelys in Upper Normandy. We can only delight in the talent of this great artist.
