Criticism

Painting is like with many other things: certain artists moderate their efforts, shaping their talent little by little, and with circumspection opt for various paths, while others are exultant, dynamic, and dive in right from their very first brushstrokes. Muriel Montfort falls rather more in the second category, given the encouraging results of her current works that are still not far off from her solidly decisive beginnings. A self-taught artist, Muriel Montfort has the luck, the genuine joy of being innately talented as a drawer, which has helped her to make giant strides in her works. Curious and observative, she seeks life in the urban reflection, such as markets and terraces. Captivated by the atmosphere, she has judiciously avoided going down the impressionist road, and instead brilliantly crafts a realism with vibrant and contrasting colours. Attractive perspectives are brought to life with evocations of characters that nevertheless sparkle with life. At various Salons and regional exhibitions the past few years, Muriel Montfort has aroused curiosity, and then won over art-lovers thanks to her clear-cut, uncluttered, compositions with their luminous charm and skillfully analyzed snapshots. This conciseness can also be seen in her slender nudes and faces drawn in pastel, while fruit bursting with light completes her work that is full of deep emotion. The value of her creative and daring temperament is hereafter confirmed and proved; evolution and experience can only propel her to certain renown.
