Criticism
In general, Gérard Capron presents powerful paintings of a major genre which, while maintaining a realist style, draw no less boldly from what is most efficient and attractive in the crucible of contemporary art. Of course, whether it is a question of portraits or nudes, the artist captivates us through his use of his robust technique but, when he so decides, his palette fills to bursting with audacity and at times bases itself on a collage that in turn bears hints of fantasy, thereby energizing his expressive works even further. The same can be said of his sound compositions on paper, which are also bold, but combined with pleasant refinement. As an artist, Gérard Capron takes an interest in beings, their faces and bodies, which he brings to life and places with a fine, creative and joyful instinct, from whence rises the decor in which the models are placed. Along the Seine valley, the artist thereby shows powerful and sensitive works by means of a synthesis that establishes his personality among a number of painters of this region particularly rich in excellent creators. Moreover, Gérard Capron states he refuses to get bogged down in one style, and much good it does him, because being a brilliant engineer of emotion, he is his own master, committed towards an incessant discovery of themes full of panache and humanity.
