What courage, and what passion you must have to dedicate yourself to sculpture, since this matchless artform allows neither mistakes nor approximations. And yet from these beginnings, Michèle Griveau-Thierrée was able, through various workshops, to carefully master carving directly into stone, clay sculpture, moulding and the technique of molten glass, thus broadly exploring a very precise area of sculpture. Salons, biennials, solo and collective exhibitions no longer hold any more secrets for this artist, who creates at Condé-sur-Ifs in Calvados. Her characters, which are steeped in vitality and humour, take on familiar gestures and poses. Attractive, beefy women and mischievous children make up her sources of inspiration, at times forming groups that are full of love and naturalness. They are the fruits of sheer appeal, with no useless artifice, and no complications, qualities from which her excellent and dynamic groups of horses also benefit. Under a rough exterior, this artist has encapsulated immense appeal through the sensual postures, unexpectedly magnifying them with an ever lively air of casualness.
