Criticism

Chris Del graduated from the prestigious Ecole Boulle as a decorator in the delicate and high-performing speciality that is marquetry. This afforded her a remarkable opening into the visual arts, allowing her to develop a contemporary vision that is recognised by not only the great Parisian and regional salons where she exhibits but also the specialised media, who never fail to accurately describe her work. Chris Del’s compositions have what it takes to surprise and seduce thanks to their rigour and the colourful and graphic definitions with which she complements them according to her inspiration. The artist alternates between painting, collage and script techniques to create a very personal arrangement in which a mystery-shrouded power and also elegance prevails. The latter stems from either an austere or generous choice of colour-blends as well as enchanting motifs, the geometry or suppleness of which render her works deeply appealing and of inspired origins. Her art builds its own language with a verve that is full of effective yet thoroughly thought-out reminders. An evocation is sometimes revealed which captures our attention, yet is skillfully blurred by the artist as though to better protect herself from the reality quivering at the end of the paintbrush.
