Criticism

Bernard Le Henaff has no problem painting. At least in appearance! He has opted for a virile, carnal, and well-composed figurative style within a sincere ambiance that displays the inherent values of artworks. Jazz music holds centre stage, surrounded by other picturesque details about everyday life and usual locations. There, without compromising the quality and vigour of his art, he allows us to almost hear this music of the soul thanks to his mastery of contrasts and the arrangement of his composition. Bernard Le Henaff’s specificity lies in the captivating bold quality of his portraits, where his characters are in full ecstatic flight with their musical instrument. Remarkable for their precision and atmosphere, all these jazz and blues singers are given a new and infinite breath of life under his brush, a life that the cutting edge of the light forever engraves into his artistic work. Perfectly in tune with the subject, and remarkable for its faithfulness, this art is punctuated with a thousand revealing and exciting details, which are in turn celebrated by a powerful pictorial brushstroke.
