Criticism

Although appealing, Marie-France Le Henaff’s painting is not simple! There is no question of casting it a courteous glance and saying to oneself: “Look! It’s abstraction sprinkled with cubism.” Beware: the artist is much subtler than that and, into what appears to be a genuine abstract composition, she distills a hint of reality, the presence of which becomes more and more insistent. And, focusing on the work, the astonished and delighted eye will see a whole universe emerge: beings, landscapes, and a whole assembly of bold and dreamy shapes with finely-wrought colours, as befitting her mood. The final ensemble is well analysed, organised, and perfectly individualised all at once. Through gradients of shades and light, and by adding surprisingly supple shapes, Marie France Le Henaff has fervently made her mark among the contemporary artists who never renounce the birth of a style or approach. Instead, they overturn received ideas by adhering to a work of quality, one that is unceasingly tested and thought-through, as well as steeped in perceptions and infinite sensations.
