Criticism
A young man when he arrived in Paris from his native Portugal in 1963, Jaime Liquito became a master carver. This allowed him to meet several great contemporary sculptors such as Cesar and Zadkine, and unleashed within him a passion for sculpting, first for carving in stone, and then creating works in bronze. His creative mind having traced out his path for him, Jaime Liquito began his career as a sculptor. He became conscious of perceiving an abstract reality of pure elegance, one which has multiple and suggestive patinas in both bas-reliefs and evocations in space.
And so followed a number of exhibitions in salons and art galleries across France, Portugal and the whole of Europe. Whether up close or in large dimensions, Jaime Liquito’s sculptures fully respond to his profound temperament. He is fond of everything that nature and beings can feel and portray, from their captivating sensuality to their full and warm curves. He even evokes generous or considered feelings, reflecting and developing them in beautiful round, smooth surfaces. These are attractive in terms of touch and serenity in a world that is steeped in inspiration and impetus.
Charm oozes from the works’ daring power and enveloping and benignant softness, and these qualities are skillfully managed with real, persuasive and moving originality, revealing the artist’s ability to translate respect and humanity with excellence and conviction.
