Criticism

Painter Bernard Leroy’s realism is very pleasant. Mindful of the composition in his works and attentive to their lively and generous impact in terms of colours, I sense he wishes to express more than just his simple and beautiful vision of beings and things. This he does by placing a driving audacity in an almost naive décor, wanting to interest more than please, and browbeat more than delight, although I esteem both equally noteworthy. A smooth brushstroke being a characteristic of his painting, Bernard Leroy could attempt even more daring lighting effects and a style enriched with sensuality. It is all the more clear that this is his path given that this feeling is perceived in his choice of subjects and that Bernard Leroy’s temperament, as revealed in his painting, accords him a firmer freedom. And he has never forgotten that drawing, the indispensable basis of his talent, is a tool to be practiced continually, for the greater enjoyment of his paintings, from whence he is able to conjure as much beauty as satisfaction.
