Criticism

Without any marked concern for thorough technique or for conveying messages, thoughts or obscure testimonies, Christine CHATEL describes herself as a narrative painter. She testifies primarily for herself, playing with the palette knife and proposing works in spruce colours in which she accurately develops memories, travels or important events that have shaped her mind. Her works are often orchestrated instinctively in fanciful compositions, to which only the artist holds the key. With these, she delights amateurs of painting, those who care little for a strict vision of reality and enjoy discovering and experiencing the sensations inspired by Christine CHATEL. The inherent audacity in her works is also present in the artist’s curious sculptures and highly decorative animal portraits.
