Criticism

One does not become a painter, one is born a painter! And whatever you do, however much you might study the secrets of this artform, one that has been both exalted and mistreated over the centuries, only the core personality of each individual can find spiritual contentment, and often far from material and technical skills. It seems to me that, in her painting, collage, marouflage and watercolours, Lucienne Bonvin is not easily taken in by habits and customs, and that she is under no constraint, expressing herself with a natural spontaneity that cares little for absolute rules and stereotyped conventions. According to her thoughts and imagination, she deciphers feelings and innovations without the paralysing worry of exactness, but with undivided intuition, which she is able to feel in a classical sense, or express in an intransigent fashion. Lucienne Bonvin can just as easily explore the appealing world of the floral collage as the mysterious path of abstraction, enlivening her work with dynamic splashes of colour and eliciting a noteworthy impact.
