Criticism
Observing artworks painted by LIZMO’s “liberating knife”, it can at least be asserted that this artist, Doctor of Education, writer, essayist and extensive traveller, brings a substantial dose of decisive energy into her painting, and possesses complete conceptual freedom in her vertiginous quest for creativity. At times figurative, LIZMO is able to reproduce a marine world at will, one that is peopled with characters at work, but also surrounded with visual memories. These she revisits through devilish rhythms that are powerfully evocative of states of mind, magnifying, and splendidly so, rigorous works of art ennobled by iridescent surroundings. That is not forgetting her portraits, which are unsettling and thoughtful yet exalted with colour. But it’s in her apparently instinctive yet strictly analysed approach that LIZMO’s pictorial personality comes through, expressed in dynamic colour blends and harmonies that are more poetic than they first appear. Her comparisons and literary references are very interesting, providing shortcuts steeped in the authors’ brief descriptive magic. And this is how the very singular artist distinguishes herself, presenting works that are complex in approach but fascinating and infinitely enriching.
