What is more attractive than naïve painting, the real sort, which draws its sources from a self-taught artist’s passion? Here is one such painting, by an unknown or at least unrecognized artist who reveals her talent in all sincerity and simplicity. The art naïve movement has already a great many renowned painters and it is hardly necessary to promote it, adeptly or otherwise. But admit it is refreshing for the critic and art-lover to admire it, today and in the future, especially if they have Prune Bardoux’s prestigious personality and style. We are thankful, therefore, that the American art dealer Thomas Bannon noticed her over 30 years ago. By exhibiting her work, he launched her career as a professional painter who is appreciated at art fairs and galleries alike on every continent. It’s quite simple: Prune Bardoux’s painting is simply dripping with poetry, freshness and picturesque scenes. These are valuable qualities in an artist who so perfectly combines reality with her way of seeing things and of understanding the natural, and human, spectacle, to which she devotes herself. Her work is characterized by spruce colours, characters described with effective grace, and relaxed landscapes prettily decorated with flowers and reassuring curves. At the same time, urban life takes on a charm with expressive and fine details, making Prune Bardoux’s work an expression of the joy of living and delightful discoveries.
