Criticism
I am impressed by the ease and the brilliance with which Bernard MORINAY conveys to the artistic world his impressions that are both Breton and Moroccan.
At first, I thought, "they’re hardly compatible!" And I must admit that, through setting up a workshop in Finistère and another in Essaouira, the artist has completed his role and his vocation: testifying to the infinite richness that these extremes represent. They nourish his talent with a way and a respect for nature and human beings.
It represents a real and attractive challenge for this fine-arts teacher who has come to light and made a name for himself as an artist. His way of building his motifs and landscapes is remarkable, and I know a number of painters of seascapes and atmospheric harbours who would like to fulfill their creative mission with such a poetic mastery in the ambiance and such harmony in the use of colours.
Moreover, Bernard MORINAY’s palette of colo
urs renders an authenticity to the mists of Armor as they give way to the richness inherent to North Africa, with its sumptuous ochres and blues, its light and serenity. All the while he maintains an intensely personal style brimming with both charm and intensity.
