Criticism
It just goes to show that the internationally reputed École Boulle can lead from interior and commercial architecture to computer science innovation, and ultimately end with painting. And believe me, not just any painting: GuSi (Simon Guez) follows his artistic path with remarkable brio and something that is novelly endearing. With this in mind, GuSi drew inspiration from the Hebrew alphabet, the script and meanings of which elicit paintings that are vibrant in colour and shape, within a world and associations that are boldly mastered. Rich chromatic harmonies quiver unreservedly under a fearless paintbrush in works that are of a fresh and simple realism.
But we also need to contend with the culmination of the artist’s thoughts, the initial seriousness of which adapts to a happy definition of life, evocative motifs and beings. At times, characters haunt this visual decor in bold episodes which sparkle with cheer, while a lavish and unbridled brushstroke beautifully enhances the happy and intelligent paintings.
