  • Criticism

Being a purely self-taught artist who is deeply focused on the discovery of matter, light and life, sculptor Philippe Joram from Normandy has created an “inoxidisable” form of expression. However, with this genre of visual creation, it is hardly a question of modelling or carving, but of building, cutting, chiselling and, above all, unashamedly imagining the possibilities and technical limits that metals and their ally the soldering iron allow. Hence this creativity and this fine collection of works. Through pictorial sweeps and imaginary structures, Philippe Joram portrays values and colours with surprising brilliance. Here, metallurgy, coincidences and reflection play an exceptional role, heralding this expressive style and its tentacular, dreamlike quality. Whether elegant or rigourously geometrical, only the artist is able to define and transform it into works of art. These pieces are unusual without a doubt, but well conceived and in a contemporary dynamic. The omnipresence of matter is justified and expressed in signs that are of an ever creative and material fullness. Yet the metal is also docile, being subjugated to the aims and skill of the artist as well as to the taste of the art lover in the fullest sense of the term.
