Originally from Caen in Normandy, Jean-François Huet fell in love with sculpture in a most unusual way. He discovered his passion through the culinary arts, which he perfectly mastered whilst inventing decorative shapes for gastronomic purposes. He was able to transpose his experience into sculpture, and today dedicates himself to this art form with great flair. Modelling allows him to return to the basics, and in true autodidact fashion, he draws sketches before transposing them into three dimensions. Jean-François Huet’s sculptures are figurative. Feminine sensuality is a very frequent theme, with willowy, graceful and vivacious silhouettes portraying a certain sensation of abstraction through their deliberate stylisation. With their elegant mannerist contortions, these figures invite the eye to circle round them and discover the plays of light and shadow. Rather ingeniously, the artist also produces imaginative “sculpture-paintings” in high relief that are intended for hanging on the wall. Confident in style, his hereby created world is dynamic and harmonious. Jean-François Huet’s innovative creations convey, above all, beauty and purity, and possess all the qualities to appeal, to charm and to inspire.
